Locals fare well in region 覧覧覧覧覧- STAFF REPORT 覧覧覧覧覧覧- The Independent Karate Federation, based at the E稚own Swim & Fitness Center, won seven medals at the AAU Region 6 Tournament held May 9 in Wilmington, Ohio. Winning gold, medals were, Elizabeth fifth In sparring; Chris Barger, 18, first in kata; Trent Emory, 9, first In kata; Sherri Harris, 27, first in kata and first in sparring; Shannon Harris, 15, first in kata; and Brock Benningfield 14, first in sparring. Earning silver medals were Jasmin Falcon, 13, second in kata and second in sparring; Mac Slack, 18, second in sparring; Eric Mitchell, second in kata and second in sparring; and Shannon Harris, second in sparring; Winning bronze medals were Thomas McCloud 8, third in sparring; John Harris, 11, third in kata and third in sparring; Benningfield third in kata and Colin Thornton, 14, third in sparring. Irish was also fifth in sparring; McCloud was fifth in kata, and Thornton was fourth in kata. The regional tournament included competitors from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, and the Lake Erie area, as well as Kentucky. These members advance to the national tournament, which will be held July 1-5 in Cincinnati, Ohio. |
