Harris Karate Club qualifies seven for Junior Olympics

Four members of the Harris Karate Club medaled at the National Karate Championships in Chicago July 7-10, with seven qualifying for the Junior Olympic Games in Cocoa Beach, Fla starting Wednesday.

Trent Emory Elizabeth Irish qualified for the Junior Olympic Games. Emory finished second in the Kumite (sparing) and third in Kata (routine) for 11-year-old boys. Irish was third in the Kumite and fourth in the Kata

Eleven year old Sara Halladay won the Kata in the beginner division. Kyle Modell finished second in for 11-year-old boys. Halladay and Modell did not qualify for the Junior Olympics because there is no beginners at the Games.

 

John Harris, the club’s primary teacher, said be was "happy" with the team’s performance.

"Each individual had the drive to do it and they did it," he said.
